eXtreme Programming,
Tools and Team a story of commercial
software development Dave Deuchert, Brian
Spears, RJ Lindelof, Brian Smith, Mike Gedzyk Follett Software Company |
Abstract
In
April of 2001, an overview of the agile method eXtreme Programming (XP) was
presented at the C-SPIN. Present in the
audience that evening were several members of the software development staff of
the Follett Software Company. Impressed by what they heard that night, the team
decided to try it on their next generation of commercial software development. What
started out as a 6[-]person team is now running 40 strong and is producing a
suite of state-of-the-art software applications.
What will be presented here
is a review of this effort, part case study and part reflection, what worked
and what was, to use an XP term, refactored along the way. The story will be
presented by the project’s team leads who champion the technical, testing, and
project management aspects of the effort.
